DAY 01 ARRIVE PARO (by Druk Air), transfer to THIMPHU
Fly to Paro on our national carrier, Druk Air. After immigration formalities and collection of baggage, you are met by your Bhutanese escort, and drive a short distance to Paro town. Following lunch visit Ta Dzong, (National Museum) and Rimpung Dzong (ancient fortress). Late afternoon drive 1 hour to Thimphu, the modern capital town of Bhutan. Overnight at the hotel in Thimphu.
Full day sightseeing of Thimphu valley includes, visit to the Institute of Traditional Medicine, Arts & Crafts School, Royal Textile Academy, Post Office, Zilukha Nunnery, Traditional Paper factory, Takin Preserve, Trashichho Dzong and Craft Bazar. Overnight at the hotel in Thimphu.
After breakfast drive to Punakha, an ancient capital of Bhutan. Spend some time at Dochu La Pass (3.050 m) for tea/coffee and photographing. On a clear day this pass often offers panoramic views of the eastern Himalayan mountain ranges. Arrive Punakha and after lunch hike to Chimi Lhakhang (temple) on a small hilltop. This temple is dedicated to the great Yogi in 14th century known as Drukpa Kuenley or popularly known affectionately as the “Divine madman”. The temple has become a pilgrimage site for childless couples. Next we visit Punakha Dzong, the “Palace of Great Happiness” and “a masterpiece of Bhutanese Architecture”, built in 1637 by Shabdrung Nawang Namgyel, the saint who unified Bhutan. Overnight at the hotel in Punakha.
This morning drive to Paro via Thimphu. Visit National Memorial Chorten, Golden Buddha Statue and Simtokha Dzong. Lunch in Thimphu and afternoon depart to Paro to visit Kichu Lhakhang and Dungtse Lhakhang. Overnight at the hotel in Paro.
Hike to Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s nest), the most sacred and spectacular monastery. It clings precariously to a craggy cliff 800 m (2,600 ft) above the Paro valley. The beautiful excursion to the monastery takes about 6hours for round trip. Overnight at the hotel in Paro.
DAY 06 DEPART PARO (by Druk Air)
After breakfast drive to the airport for flight to your onward destination.
